Add Watermarks in Microsoft Word [Tutorial]

Watermarks are images or text used by people to protect their work from plagiarism. If you want to add watermarks to your documents, Microsoft Word is the best option for you. As it allows you to add either text or image to secure your personal documents.

I will be using Microsoft Word 2007 for this guide but it will also work on Word 2010.

So, let’s begin:

1. Open Microsoft Word document on which you want to add watermark and navigate to Page Layout > Watermark.

2. Open Watermark options and there you will see some samples of different types of watermarks you can add.

3. Select the one which you want to apply and it will add the text shown in the sample to your documents. It will look something like this:

Microsoft Word also enables users to add custom watermarks, texts or company logos in the documents as well.

4. To add custom watermak, go to Page Layout > Watermarks > Custom Watermark.

5. It will show you Watermark Options. To add a text watermark, select text watermark and fill in the details and click Apply.

7. Now, if you want to add a picture watermark, follow step 5 again. And instead of selecting text watermark, select Picture Watermark.

8. Click on Select Picture and browse the file which you want to use as watermark.

9. Click Apply and you are done.

Note: You can use this guide in Microsoft Word 2010 as well.

Will Google run your Television in the future?

Google is into the business of Internet, Operations systems with Android and Chromium and now mobile phones with Nexus. Now that leaves out Television and Google is now rumored to be planning a two pronged strategy to enter the Television market. The first strategy is by tying up with Dish Network where their set top boxes will run on Android. The other part of this strategy is a tie up with Sony to build Television sets with Android based format.

Google Android on Dish Network…

Google has tied up with Dish Network, one of the biggest satellite television providers. An android powered set top box will allow easy access to content from YouTube directly. It also might make a difference as it customers will be able to create playlists and subscribe to specific content. Also with both the set top box and the mobile phone being Android there should be interesting potential for combining the two seamlessly. Google might make money through selling ads on the network.

Google Android on Sony TV sets…

Sony Television sets might be programmed with Android based platforms. This will again be high competition to services like TiVo. This move is on the basis that the future of Television content will be through the internet. We can probably expect a decent browser for looking up web content and also access to YouTube along with Picassa web albums.

Will Google be too powerful?

This will raise a now increasingly common debate that is Google getting too powerful with access to all we look up on the internet and now they might have access to content we have on Television. Would people be comfortable with Google having access to which channel you watch more and hence give you customized ads?

What do you think about Google’s foray into TV platforms? The prospect is surely exciting but the downside is something people might be not very comfortable with, atleast in the present.

Airtel to sell iPhone 3GS in India

Today, Bharti Airtel agreed to sell Apple’s iPhone 3GS in India in the coming months. Airtel is India’s largest mobile phone operator by users. Yesterday, it had also submitted its bid to participate in a bandwidth auction for 3G services, and the successful bidders would be allowed to offer 3G services on commercial basis from September 1, 2010.

We had also covered this story in June 2009, but the deal has happened now and it looks like only Airtel would be selling iPhone 3GS in India.

Update: You can now check the official iPhone 3GS page on Airtel’s website. There will be two models of iPhone 3GS – 16 GB and 32 GB, both available in black and white colours. Prices have not yet been disclosed.

Web-Developer Server suite: All-in-one web server

The App we are discussing today is the Web-Developer Server suite and the suite- its aptly named! Trust me when I tell you, configuring this web server is 100 times easier than configuring Apache to run your php and MySql files.

On downloading this suite, various components such as Joomla, drupal, mediawiki, phpbb2 and wordpress are installed with the web server capable of running all of this! So you can forget manually downloading everything and configuring, as the interface provided in the above mentioned app is one of the easiest I have ever used!

So for all you geeks who have just begun to program on the above mentioned platforms, after installing this software

You just have to click on the icon on your desktop and the above window will open.
In order to be able to run your pages, you only need to start the relevant services, instead of opening windows services!
Once your services are running, log onto your browser and type in “http://localhost” to see if the server is running.
If your machine as IIS installed, you need to stop the IIS service before you start the Apache service as both of them use the same port.

As far as the performance is concerned, its a well developed application and easily one of the best out there! So check this app out, make your life & code easier!

Create vertical and horizontal menus without coding knowledge

Here is a website which allows you to create vertical and horizontal menus without the need of any knowledge of a coding. This tool should be really useful for someone who is tweaking around on his theme for a blog but is hampered by lack of knowledge of coding.

Recently we have been writing a lot of posts which will help developers including information on How to include Paypal “Buy Now” button on a website or on how to have Retweet, F Share & Google Buzz buttons on your Blog without plugins. But these do need a working knowledge of HTML language. This is where websites like Menubuilder.me is very useful.

About Menubuilder

It has a display which shows exactly how the Menu will show up.
I could tweak the background of default and mouse-over for a particular button. I could also select a Menu style.
After I choose a horizontal or vertical menu I could then generate and Preview it. On the other hand I could download the generated menu as a zip file.

How to Set up Google custom search to make money online

Thanks to every one who gave some feedback and suggestions on my earlier post. How we can add a Google custom search on your blog and make money with it. Do you know that every time a user searches for something in your blog makes money ?

Step 1: – Click here to open the Google page,this page will provide a option for creating a custom search.

Step 2: - Login with your Gmail account.

Step 3: – Fill all the related information, and follow the instruction

Step 4: – You will see the congratulation message on your screen. Click on finish. And a confirmation email sent to your email address.

Step 5: – After clicking on finish button a windows appears like this

Step 6: - The next windows looks like this,new you have to chose look and feel from Control panel section.

Step 7: - In this stage there are so many options you have but I’ll suggest you to choose I Frame option.It will return you separate code one is for search from and another is for search result.

Final and Last Stage: – Now you have the Google custom search code,copy it and place it on searchform.php and search.php or follow the inactions.

Now is the time to start making money with your custom search engine. Click on the Make Money menu which appears on control panel. When you are building Google custom search, you have a option to add Google Adsense ads in the search result pages and you can customize this by displaying ads above the search results or on the right with different options like – Above & Right, Above & Below etc and you can select the right format based on your search results section width and design. You have two options.

I am a new AdSense User(for those who are don’t have adsense account)
I already have an AdSense account.(for those who have already a AdSense account)

I am a new AdSense User: – Click on it and you will be redirected to a Google page were you can create one. After you have created your account you can follow the steps. I already have an AdSense account: – When you will click on this link Google will ask you for your email, your Zip or Postal code and your all information. Enter all the information and press Submit.

Before doing this, you have to be signed up to Google AdSense for Search. If you aren’t already, you can do so by signing into your AdSense account and selecting My Account and then Account Access. Now you have to allow access from http://www.google.com/cse/ to your AdSense account. Then try clicking Submit in your search engine page and all should be fine. If you haven’t done it right, you will get an error saying: “Your account does not have SearchAds. Make sure you are signed up for AdSense for Search and not just AdSense for Content or Referrals.” Now click the link Add Custom Channels so you can filter the revenue that comes from the Search Engine. Choose a channel name. I choose Dw_channel (Search Engine Revenue). Click Submit.

How to use PayPal Instant Payment Notification for e-commerce Website?

In this part, we are going to learn about PayPal Instant Payment Notification (IPN).

IPN is a message service that notifies you of events related to PayPal transactions. You can use IPN to automate back-office and administrative functions. As the name says Instant Payment Notification, it really is instant. The moment a customer buys a product from your website using PayPal, IPN reaches your server within few seconds.

The process is shown in the following image (Copied from PayPal)

When a customer buys your product, PayPal sends the transaction detail to the IPN URL provided by you.

Lets write a code to handle IPN

Lets see what we have done so far.

PayPal sends the transaction details to our server. To check whether, PayPal sent this data, we need to send the data back to PayPal. If the data was sent by PayPal, it will display “VERIFIED”.

Line # 1-6: To send data back to PayPal, we will first collect the variables posted to our server. We need to add ‘cmd=_notify-validate’ to these variables to tell PayPal to validate the data provided.
Line # 8-17: We will use CURL to send data back to PayPal. We will collect the information displayed by the PayPal in $result.
Line # 20: We will check whether the posted data was valid or not.
Line # 21-28: If the data is valid, then we will stored the sent data in variables. Few examples of the variables are:
- txn_id : This is the transaction id of the transaction made. It is unique for every transaction.
- item_name : This is the product name.
- mc_gross: Full amount of the customer’s payment, before transaction fee is subtracted.
- mc_fee: Transaction fee which is deducted for the transaction.
- payment_status: The payment status such as Processed, Completed, Pending, Failed, etc.
- payer_email: Email address of the payer.
- payment_date: Date on which payment was made.

Line # 31-47: Depending on the payment status, perform the necessary action.

By using IPN, you can maintain inventory, transaction logs and automate so many other things.
